Gaea 2 - non landscape builds 1

Gaea 2 has brought a lot of new tools to the table, in particular, the texturing tools are much better. The speed is also a huge advantage. I was able to work in 2k really fast on my modest 3080, and then moving to 4k previews wasn't a problem.

For those wondering why I'm not building these in substance, well one reason is that I can build these in less steps than what I do in designer. I can also see it as a real displaced mesh in realtime more easily than in designer and I can then export that mesh already decimated with UVs. There are disadvantages, certainly, like no current wrap functions or built in tilabilty to the fractals, but those are easily resolved. I still use Substance, but these are nice too :)

I've built a few different wood tests in Gaea 1, but this was a test with the new features in G2.

Came up with a way to add peeling paint and then a separate texture pass to add dirt and streaks using the colour erode features in G2

Just for fun, a pass with the quadspinner logo.

Testing out tiling tests. Few missing features in Gaea 2 to make this even better, but several of the new features have added a nice extra touch, like the debris node :)

There exists a sandstone node in Gaea 2, but this isn't it. This mostly uses classic techniques found in G1, but the texturing is all G2

With Gaea 2 I was able to get layers of dirt and detail I'm not sure I'd be able to do easliy in G1.

A rocky cliff. This is an area that you always miss out on the standard terrain due to the way height maps work.

I got into creating these this way so I would have something to use for displacement on those portions of the height map.

Had to rotate this in photoshop to be able to view it at this angle.

This was based on a forrest cliff that I saw. The challenge was to try and get not just the same shapes, but also the same colour

This was built with the idea of displacing a different shape to get the final asset. Something slightly rounded and oblong.
